School Professional Developments & Training

In a lot of ways educational inequality can still persist in the United States. Statistics highlighting everything from achievement gaps to punishment discrepancies are still the norm in most major cities. Many times educators are faced with the sobering reality that their students face a very difficult and different home life than themselves. 

As teachers take time to research issues affecting the communities they work in, we will assist in setting up their classrooms to address those needs. By addressing the unique needs in an urban environment we are not attempting to mirror a stereotypical middle-class classroom but our endeavor is to help bridge the gap in learning. ACC looks forward to helping educators redefined what success means in their environment by framing education as a way to return and help shape the community instead of trying to escape from it.

To any educator classroom management can refer to the wide variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to ensure that their classroom runs effectively, without disruptive behavior from students. It is the ability to have a structured learning environment with clear rules that promote learning as well as consequences that help deter negative behaviors that may get in the way of learning.

This can differ by subject, age, and the number of students in the classroom. The end goal is to have an academically productive classroom that produces focused, attentive, and goal oriented students. As a result, effective classroom management is an absolute must since it impacts the teachers’ ability to be effective educators and enjoy their job. As times and pupils change, classroom management is an ongoing process, that we are confident that we can be a vital part of.

The skills and knowledge captured in ELA/literacy standards are designed to prepare students for life inside and outside the classroom.  In the areas of grammar, spelling, reading and phonics we expect students to use reasoning and evidence collection skills that are essential for success in school, college, career, and life. Literacy in its simplest definition is defined as reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is our mandate to provide training and curriculum that engages students and educators while being as interactive as possible.  

This is accomplished by allowing students to research and explore literature and non-fiction through integrated reading and writing programs available throughout the K - 12 grade spans. This will also include critical-thinking skills as well as the ability to read texts in a way that will help them understand and enjoy even more complex works of literature.

Leaders are put into their positions for a lot of reasons. Whether they are now department heads, lead teachers, summer school directors, principals, or vice principals, they have proven themselves in some way. This is not an easy task to accomplish, but they accomplished it nonetheless. Now as leaders, they are faced with the new challenge of motivating other educators to prove themselves in some way also.

This new challenge is different than the first task due to the fact that before the leaders just had to be self-motivated, now they have to be great motivators. Our comprehensive leadership training includes the following: reveals barriers to good leadership, shows how to demonstrate strategy and vision, reviews the importance of integrity, and covers how to build confidence.

We help enable your cleaning staff to protect your School against COVID-19 by properly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects.  Studies show that proper routine processes can help safely and effectively reduce the spread of disease in your school or facility. Since your staff’s health is just as important as your students, we will also review the proper (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment that should be worn to ensure each worker’s safety.

In addition to being highly interactive as well as knowledgeable we will also provide true case scenarios that will display the different cleaning and disinfecting that is necessary if and when an outbreak has occurred. Lastly we will also provide preventative maintenance on an employee basis and even during home life which can affect if someone is contagious or not.

At ACC we have a wealth of knowledge, tips and resources to aid the working parent in home schooling during this pandemic. At ACC we have educators on staff who have also been homeschooling for over 15 years that are willing to work with school districts, parents, and educators as we get used to the “New Norm” of navigating through virtual learning.

We recognize the need to assist parents and school districts in creating new processes. These processes can include lesson planning that is aligned to state standards that will assist in effective academic and behavioral supports for students. Through our trainings, professional developments, tools, and resources we will show how to successfully transition to the virtual classroom and what that looks like for schools and school districts. We will continue to support alongside with coaching that will assist and support throughout the academic school year.

At times a specific racial and equity workshop has to be developed depending on the school’s goals, missions and values. Customized racial and equity training is designed specifically for you and the individual situation that you may be facing. Afful Consulting has researchers on hand to review the school’s and or school district’s individual situation and research any and all information that would pertain to that situation.  

It is at that point that the lead consultant would develop a customized facilitation in conjunction with the school’s delegated official. This facilitation and curriculum would be tailor made for either the school or school district to create harmony and racial equity.

At this point in time, almost every area of life-work time, leisure time, school, and even family leads to communication with others that have cultural differences from our own. Different cultures perceive situations differently. It is this fact that drives the curriculum and training for cultural diversity training within school districts.

It is our hope to assist you in designing a diversity initiative that not only works but also makes sense based on your overall goals and objectives. In doing this the end result will be happy faculty, happy staff, and most importantly happy students!
